Singapore Ship Sale Form
Designed by the Asian Maritime Community – used Worldwide.
Today, Asia is a dominant force in international shipping and it is estimated that Asian shipowners control approximately 50% of the world’s fleet. With the centre of gravity of global shipping fast gravitating to Asia, ship sales and purchases will increase exponentially. Maritime arbitration and dispute cases in the region will also increase. These lend credence to the need to have disputes arbitrated in Asia itself.
The SSF was officially launched by the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) on 6 January 2011 in response to the Singapore and Asian maritime community’s call for an alternative viable up-to-date sale form in view of changing banking and maritime regulations as well as practices in sale and purchase of second-hand vessels. The SSF is formally endorsed by both the Asian Shipowners’ Forum as well as the Federation of ASEAN Shipowners’ Associations (FASA).
With effect from 1 November 2011, SMF has given the exclusive rights to distribute the editable version of the SSF to Asian Shipowners’ Forum (ASF). The ASF has partnered SDSD making the form available via the Charter Party Editor Software. Developed by SDSD, the Editor is a market leading solution offering the best functionality that can help you execute charter parties, quickly and efficiently.
To date, there are over 100 known shipping transactions that have adopted the SSF. The SSF has proven to be a viable option that could well serve the business needs for sale and purchase of second-hand vessels. The SSF was also used in the sales involving buyers of various nationalities ranging from Russian, Mediterranean to Chinese.

The Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF) was incepted on 27 January 2004, to embrace and support the government’s objective of promoting Singapore as an international maritime centre.
As a private sector-led organisation, SMF provides the industry with a clear and representative voice. We also benefit from strong industry support, which has enabled us to tap directly into the community for new ideas and initiatives that benefit the maritime fraternity in Singapore. Our maritime partners cover the entire spectrum of the industry, including the marine, shipping, port and ancillary services sectors.
As the link-bridge between government and the players in the private sector of the maritime industry, SMF works in sync with our partners to initiate ideas and drive proposals to boost the sector’s development and grow the Singapore economy in the long run. Some of the key milestone initiatives include the iconic-maritime show, Sea Asia, a mega-maritime show that projects the voice of Asia, the MaritimeONE scholarships amongst others.
On the international front, we partnered Association of Singapore Marine Industries (ASMI) to fly the Singapore flag at the international maritime shows, namely Posidonia in Greece and Norshipping in Norway.
